locale: yosemite

a set from a visit to Yosemite National Park in california's sierra nevada. these photos were taken over two and a half days in january of 2009. a HOLGA120N and digital canon were used. the HOLGA was shooting 35mm kodak 200 & 400 and a roll of ilford XP2 400.

a double exposure due to the end of the roll. yosemite valley as seen from big oak flat road is the primary image. the ghost image of lower yosemite fall can be seen in the background.

a double exposure of two vistas offered by a hiking trail accessible from big oak flat road as it winds into the valley floor. on the left is the valley and on the right the meadow near foresta is seen.

the water's path near bridalveil fall.

the arc of birdalveil fall. bridalveil is known to catch the wind
and descend in interesting ways.

a rainbow at the base of upper yosemite fall. this occurred in the
morning hours as the sun began to shine directly into the valley.

sunset reflecting in the merced river.

view of upper yosemite fall from the valley floor.

this photo is from tunnel view which is one of the more popular places to take photos of the valley. the view is wonderful but if you visit this place expect a long line of SLRs and tourists to be there year round.

merced river flowing near happy isles.

Another shot of merced river near happy isles. after a snow storm all
of the rocks in gentle areas of the river wear a snowcap.

upper mirror lake and the cliffs of the eastern end of the valley.

lower mirror lake.

the irregular growth of trees on the valley floor. i have always liked noir imagery and i could not help snapping a few pictures of this nature while i had b&w film in the HOLGA.

creek near big oak flat road. The phrase "don't look down"
came to mind while I was framing this. and a small amount of vertigo.
